This $5 Silver Certificate (Series of 1923) was engraved and printed at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing in Washington, D.C. The nickname "Porthole" comes from the heavy circular design in which Lincoln's portrait appears. The portrait of Lincoln was engraved by Charles Burt after a photograph taken by Anthony Berger in Mathew Brady's Portrait Studio in Washington, D.C. On the reverse appears the Obverse of the Great Seal of the United States, engraved by Robert Ponickau.
